Grandmaster Kim Myung Yong
Martial Arts History:
• In 1958 at the age of 17 Kim Myung Yong started training Hapkido
at the Seung Moo Kwan
led by Ji Han Jae.
• In 1964 he reached his 3rd Korea Hapkido Association
Dan.
• From 1961 to 1965 he teaches at the Dong Sung dojang
of the KHA.
• In 1967 he became the 5th Degree Black Belt Jin Jung Kwan in the
KHA.
• In 1968 he is the Hapkido instructor in the military
camp Wang Shim Ri.
• In the course of 1970, he became 6th Degree Black Belt in the KHA
and opened his second dojang.
• On 26 December 1971 he became 7th Degree Black Belt in the KHA.
• In 1972 he officially opens the second Jin Jung Kwan
dojang under the KHA.
• In 1973 the third Jung Jin Kwan dojang opened.
• In 1974 the fourth Jin Jung Kwan dojang opened.
• In 1975 GM Kim emigrated to the United States of America.
• In 1975 he opened a Hapkido dojang in Chicago
Milwaukee.
• In 1975 GM Lee Chang Soo takes over Jin Jung Kwan
in Korea from GM Kim Myung Yong.
• In 1976 he moved to Fullerton.
• In September 1977 he returned to Korea.
• In September 1977 he opened the headquarters of Jin
Jung Kwan in Seoul in the district Mok Dong Myung.
• In May 1980 he returned to Chicago and opened another
dojang.
• In November 1982 he moved to Houston, Texas.
• In March 1983 he opened Kim's Hapkido dojang in Long
Point Houston, Texas.
• In 1993 he was promoted by the Korea Hapkido Federation
to 9th Degree Black Belt.
• Currently, GM Kim Myung Yong, founder of the Jin Jung Kwan
Hapkido, resides in Houston, Texas.
